Wind and wave forecast

Everyone whose work is connected with the sea, or who lives on the sea coast, believes that the most important marine forecasts are those of winds and waves. To highlight these forecasts, we have placed the relevant links from the “Guide on Hydrometeorology of the Caspian Sea” to one of the main website sections. The links have been updated, and the focus is on the forecasts made specifically for the Caspian Sea.

Maps of forecasted wind velocity issued every 12 hours for the period of up to 120 hours compiled on the basis of NCEP/NOAA data are displayed on the website of Hydrometeorological Centre of Russia

Another page of this website displays the maps of wind fields and wave parameters (direction, height, length and period) issued every three hours for the period up to 120 hours compiled on the basis of the data of Hydrometeorological Centre of Russia and NCEP/NOAA. Two options of these maps are available – for the Caspian Sea as a whole and for the North Caspian

The website of I.R. of Iran Meteorological Organization displays the maps of forecasted wind and wave fields for the period up to 99 hours which run every 6 hours . Wave fields are predicted on the basis of SWAN model, which is the 3rd generation wave model developed in the Technical University of Delft (the Netherlands).

The Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science displays the maps of forecasted wave fields compiled by means of numerical modeling done by the Iranian National Center for Ocean Hazard, for the period of 72 hours which run every 6 hours

Turkish State Meteorological Service displays the forecasts of wind and waves for the period of up to 72 hours updated every 3 hours. To calculate wave fields, the model developed jointly with the Middle East Technical University is used.
